About the Gallery

Weinstein Hammons Gallery works with internationally recognized artists working in all media, with a special focus on modern and contemporary photography. Early exhibitions that helped define the gallery's program include Chuck Close: Self Portraits and Man Ray: Prints and Objects, as well as exhibitions of work by Luis Gonzalez Palma, Mike and Doug Starn, and Nicolas Africano. The gallery has been committed to presenting important retrospective exhibitions of influential photographers such as August Sander, Andrew Kertesz, Mario Giacomelli, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, W. Eugene Smith, Gordon Parks, and Robert Mapplethorpe.

Additionally, the gallery has organized important historical group shows that have added to the scholarly dialogue surrounding photography. Examples include The Pyramids: 150 Years of Photographic Fascination, The Rite of Assembly, a unique historical analysis of the genre of group photography, and The Fashion Show, an exhibition devoted to fashion images by leading women photographers, the first exhibition of its kind in the United States. Weinstein Gallery has placed its represented artists' work in major private collections and museums throughout the country.
